PGDCA (Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application)
PGDCA is a postgraduate course available by many Universities in India recognized by UGC. The course duration is one year and includes two semesters. To enrol for this course, a person has to be a graduate.
The programme deals with the theoretical and practical aspects of computer software, its application and development. During the course, the student will study subjects like Operating System, Database Management Systems, and Web Programing. Candidates who complete the course will be able to take up various jobs in the software industry.
The PGDCA programme as mentioned above is available in both regular and distance modes, with each having their advantages and disadvantages. A distance learning PGDCA course is cheaper and the students can enroll in their native or a nearby place where a centre is located. On the other end of the spectrum, there is the regular PGDCA course administered normally every week in a normal class-room environment. So, candidates get to engage more frequently with faculty and peers; the quality of teachers is also better in regular classes and there is more energy to it. Distance learning classes can be more laid back. The one-year course normally has to be completed in maximum three years, but IGNOU allows a four-year limit.
